Research Proposal for Medication Adherence Using Smartphone Technology
Keywords:
medicine, various gadgets, GlaucomaAbstract
The field of medicine has changed dramatically with the advent of Smartphone technology.
Patients are able to access their records with a click of the button. Lab results are available
online immediately. Technological advances have allowed various gadgets and sensors
to track human activity like never before. Epidemiology has advanced to the point where cell
phones are used to track disease in remote parts of Sub-Saharan Africa. The one area which
has not been studied is the role of the Smartphone in not just tracking disease, but also as an
intervention in medication adherence. We are studying specifically the role of the Smartphone
in medication adherence with respect to glaucoma. Glaucoma is an insidious disease where
patients may not know that they are going blind. It is imperative that they adhere to medication
usage by their physician, yet many see the need to. We are looking into using Smartphone
technology to increase medication adherence, as well as to track the progression of glaucoma.
