Micro Publications are concise scholarly outputs designed to communicate a single, well-defined research contribution without requiring authors to expand it artificially into a conventional full-length article — a focused experimental finding, validated observation, methodological improvement, negative or confirmatory result, dataset description, or similar discrete contribution.

Format

Rather than imposing one universal length across all disciplines, each participating journal or publication programme establishes its own concise format, typically including a focused title, brief abstract, clearly defined finding, essential methods, and references. The defining characteristic is a focused contribution rather than an arbitrary word count. Where numerical limits are appropriate, the individual publication states them explicitly.

Editorial and Peer Review

Being shorter does not exempt a Micro Publication from scholarly quality control. Research claims undergo an appropriate form of independent assessment, proportionate to the scope and complexity of the contribution, with the review model used clearly disclosed.

Purpose

The model is intended to make legitimate, focused research contributions discoverable and citable without encouraging unnecessary expansion of results solely to meet traditional article-length expectations.
